RULES FOR "DOWNTOWN SHOOT-OUT"
NOTE:  All players must sign in at the registration table and provide proof of age and/or grade level.
  1. Teams consist of four (4) players.  The 4 players you register are your 4 players for the tournament.  No roster changes are allowed after the entry deadline.  Injuries, before or during the event, still allow for 3 players to compete.  Three players from each team must start the game.  A shirt/jersey must be worn at all times during play.
  2. The tournament will be double-elimination.
  3. Games will be played to 15 points by one-point baskets or until 15 minutes has expired, whichever comes first.
  4. A two-point shot line will be in effect.
  5. If a game ends in a tie at the end of 15 minutes, the winner will be determined by a sudden-death foul shot.  Each team will select one player to shoot its foul shots.  The team scoring the final point during the regular contest shall shoot first.  Each team will alternate shots and each team shall shoot the same number of times.  When one team is in the lead after both teams have shot the same number of times, that team will be declared the winner.
  6. The ball will change hands after each score.
  7. The ball must be passed in from beyond the two-point line after each dead ball or score.  A violation of this rule will not require a change of possession.  The court monitor shall enforce this rule by stopping play to require the pass in bounds.
  8. The ball must be taken beyond the two-point line with any change of possession.
  9. Substitution is permitted following a score.
  10. Initial possession will be determined by a coin toss on the court by the court monitor.
  11. Players call their own fouls.  Court monitors will settle only disputes, and THEIR DECISION WILL BE FINAL.  No timeouts allowed.  Play can only be stopped by the court monitor.
  12. Free throws will be shot on all shooting fouls.  One foul shot for one-point shooting fouls and two foul shots for two-point shooting fouls.  Each foul shot made is worth one point.
  13. Flagrant fouls, hanging on the rim, misconduct, rough play, abusive language, fighting, or use of unregistered players or use of alcohol and drugs are expressly prohibited and will result in the forfeiture and dismissal of your team from the tournament and all its contests.  Any player dismissed for fighting will be banned from playing in this tournament in the future.
  14. Technical fouls will be assessed for flagrant and/or intentional fouls.  Possession and one foul shot will be awarded.
  15. When a player is bleeding, he/she may not continue to play until the bleeding is stopped and the open wound covered with a dressing sturdy enough to withstand the demands of play.  An player whose uniform is saturated with blood, regardless of the source, must have that uniform evaluated by a tournament official and changed if necessary before returning to participation.  It is recommended that players consider bringing an extra jersey.
  16. Failure to have your team on court at the time the signal to begin your game is given will mean your forfeiture of the game.
  17. No dunking allowed.
  18. In categories defined by age, players may play within categories that are defined by ages less than the player's age.  In categories defined by grades, players in lower grades may play in the upper grade divisions, but upper-grade players are not permitted to play in the lower grade divisions.
